Comments:

Never-ending trip to PNG from Europe: fly to Cairns via Singapore and Brisbane, overnight in Cairns, then flight to Port Moresby (PNG Capital) with Air Niugini. Connect with a domestic flight to Rabaul, overnight in Rabaul, boarding the Star Dancer in the morning. The cruise went from diving the reefs close to Rabaul to the Witu Islands, then back to Kimbe Bay and ended in Walindi.

Living and diving on board the ship were great, including the food. Memorable dives were Killibob’s Knob for the shark action, Crack A Fat for the huge schools and pelagic action, The Zero for the Japanese fighter wreck, and most dive sites in Kimbe for the macro life. Good muck diving at the Witus, where the most interesting spot is Dicky’s Place. I met Dicky too.

This was my first try at digital photography, with an Olympus C-4040Z and no external strobes. I had an incredible time, but after a good many other trips, I think places like Indonesia and the Philippines offer quite similar diving in terms of quality and are far more accessible.
